Take Care of Your Self

Take Care of Your Self.

Be your own pet. Seriously.

Start with nourishment. Favor good clean nourishing food for strong bones, healthy teeth, and a shiny coat. I’m only occasionally  “okay” at this, and my adherence wanes in the summer.

Typical Summertime Afternoon

I can’t stand the heat so I stay out of the kitchen – which makes it difficult to run my nutrition activities elegantly.

It’s too hot to cook inside  (I live in a condo – which is great – but I have no yard) and the grill lives on the balcony that has a shadeless southern exposure. Until September, that space has full sun until 8pm. So its too hot to cook outside too.

The picture on the left here shows a typical summer afternoon weather reading.

I own that most of this meal difficulty is my own fault as it is a function of not only the weather but my childish diet as well. If I could COMMIT to salad consumption (as many people healthier than I do in the summer) life would be easier and I’d weigh less.

But no.

Meat and potatoes, stews, and pasta predominate – with a few green vegetables that I do like. Breakfasts that come from my kitchen are restaurant quality too. All a lot more fun to prepare when its not really hot.

Last night – once the sun was off to the side – I went out and grilled a pork loin. Pork loins are a great food item for people living solo. They’re inexpensive, easy to prepare (I mean that – they rock in your air fryer), and the left overs are flexible for later meals. Inside I steamed a pile of broccoli. It was very warm here but I’d been not feeding myself properly for too many hot days and I needed to do better. I braved it.

My Social Media friends have seen dozens upon dozens of mouth watering pictures of foods I’ve cooked. I BRAG about it. Often I set a table (with placemats even) and serve myself a meal that says “the person who made this loves you, and wants you to be healthy and happy.”

He’d better. I walk around in his body.

So – once it cooled off a tad – I set my table and fed myself properly.

Its crazy how much better I feel today.
